#Justice for “Liz”
She was only 16 years and
had just attended her grandfather’s funeral. On her way back home six men
attacked her and raped her. She was gang raped till she bled and became
unconscious.
That was in June 2013.
After finishing their dirty
work, the rapists dumped her in a pit latrine and left her to die.
Apart from the psychological
injuries, Liz now has to use a wheel chair and also suffers from fistula.

What made the world cry for
her justice?
Well Liz was raped by minors
who then after being reported to the police, the minors were told to cut grass
as punishment.
Really is that really sane,
for a police officer in his right mind to be the judge, jury and executioner
that a rapist deserves to slash grass?
This is what sent many human
and women’s rights groups all over the world appending signatures seeking
justice for Liz.
And the culprits were
apprehended and the trial begun unfortunately they were only given 15 years
imprisonment.
Seriously that is not
enough. Thank God that even the Director of Public Prosecutions, Teriako Tobiko
saw it wrong and said that it was too lenient and that the culprits must be
given a harsher sentence.
He said, “We feel that the
sentence imposed is inordinately lenient and fails to adequately reflect the
nature and gravity of and the horrific circumstances under which the offences
were committed and the magnitude of the harm suffered by the victim”.
Former police chief doubted
the poor girl and said that the time between her screams for help and the neighbors
helping her was “too short for six assailants to have gang raped her”.
Let us only hope and pray
that someone in the police and judiciary sees the same sense as the DPP because
it is only harsher sentences that will discourage such behavior.
We can never say let boys be
boys when they could probably go ahead and become monsters.
I say justice for Liz all
the way.
