Kenyan Media serving Junk

As Kenyans we complain about the bad publicity that the Western media is giving us. This is because they are selling us short but come back home, is the Kenyan Media doing a better job? With media houses hiring celebrities instead of trained media professionals, we are seeing showbiz on our television instead of news.                               A section of Kenyan journalists at a function/PHOTO COURTESY. Ethics have gone down the drain. This is seen by the very fact of journalists posting suggestive updates on their social network page and leaving Kenyans insulting themselves. Another evidence of lack of regard for ethics are radio talk shows in the morning talking about sex, infidelity and callers whose mouths just vomit vulgarity. The media is so influential in the society. It actually sets the agenda of what is important. When you bring a lady who has forsaken her African skin and dresses skim...

Settling the Dust in Nakuru

Years back Nakuru Town was declared as the cleanest city in Kenya and just a few years ago, it was the fastest growing towns in Africa. Come back to today and that glory seems to be fading by the day. In the months of June and July 2014, small scale business owners have faced the full wrath of the Nakuru County Council which has demolished thousands of Give Kenya Hope  business structures deeming them dirty and unfit plus increasing the level of insecurity.                                  Arial view of a section of Nakuru Town/PHOTO Courtesy The move to clean up the city and return it to its former glory is not a bad thing but how it is done is quite wrong. They are the entrepreneurs whom you will never see on television but they are making it by raking in on the’’ twenty bobs’’ ...

A BREATH OF FRESH AIR IN THE KENYAN GOSPEL SCENE

She is short and chubby but when she opens her mouth you will be surprised. Mercy Opande, a 3rd year student doing Communication and Media at Egerton University is taking the Kenyan airwaves by storm with her new single LOVE. Mercy’s sound is soft RnB and even though the song is long, you want to listen to it on and on. The song LOVE encourages Christians and Kenyans in general to love one another. Her opening statements are Jesus died for Jews, the kiuks and the Luos. Is this the only song she has done? No, Mercy is not new in the music scene. Remember the DJ Gylo, the guy who accused a pastor of stealing his wife? Mercy had done a collabo with him. She has also backed several artists including Bishop Joseph WW Kamau of Happy Church Ministries International. So this is Mercy’s first single. The song has received great reception when it was aired on One FM and Egerton Radio. She is working on her next song entitled Rejoice. Mercy’s strong vocals can only be compared to Cece Win...
