When you do not finish an antibiotic dose, the bacteria shifts itself and becomes stronger against the medication. The same thing can be said of humans who do not define their borders, the people around you will become shape shifters and you will end up wondering if you really knew them.
Everyone has three personalities; The public face, the friendly face and the one who stares at the mirror. The public face does the PR where everybody is shown what needs to be in the limelight. Norms are faked on social media, guys are just rude for the purposes of publicity and all that. The friendly face is found in social circles with friends and family and even in the office. The last man standing is the one standing in front of the mirror. This person also has scary thoughts in the middle of the night. This person thinks about death, life, money and love.
The friendly face is the face of the killer, one who suffers in silence as they plan to take a rope and put the noose around their neck. The person who always seems to be smiling making everyone laugh except themselves. The person who has lost the love of their lives and still celebrating a friend’s engagement and even wedding. The friendly face usually is afraid of the man in the mirror. They cry at the sight. They weep and Gnash their teeth, a tale only their tear stained pillows can tell.
When they wake up, they put on the face of work. The face of success,the face that everything is just fine.
These are faces of the phases that people among us are going through. We have mastered the art of keeping it real by keeping it fake, muzzling our true feelings and going steady with the so called norms. Who in the first place set up those norms? It is not normal to hide pain. It is not normal to silence truth and truth is subjective.
Life is not fair but you need to face it head on. We need to be people who are honest with themselves and thereby creating an honest ecosystem where anyone who needs a shoulder gets it. Let tears fall down our cheeks if they want to, let our hands be raised up in hopelessness if that is the case, let our minds go back to the time where love was all that we had even though we knew we would never last and it was not lust.
And in that moment when the man in the mirror stares at their nakedness, they will truly be naked, they will face their creator and this time they will not run away and look for figs to cover up because too much covering up has been going on. This time round, let Adam and Eve stand before their Father and say “ We are here, naked, we know good and evil and we choose to lay it all bare.” This is the place called surrender. It is bitter sweet as the refiner starts the process of making it all turn for your good.
It is alright to be overwhelmed, it is alright to be tired, it's alright to face things head on but it isn’t alright to give up unless you are giving it all up to the one above.
