Will the Real Socialite please Stand Up?

According to the online Cambridge dictionary a socialite is someone, usually of high social class, who is famous because they go to a lot of parties and social events. According to Wikipedia, a socialite is someone who participates in social activities and spends a significant amount of time entertaining and being entertained at fashionable events attended by others of similar standing. The Urban dictionary says a socialite is a ‘’No-talent Sex Video Making Tramp.’’

Welcome to Kenya the land of world class athletes, the big five game, Oscar winners and socialites. The woman responsible for bring Kenyan’’ socialites’’ into the limelight is supposedly one Vera Sidika. She appeared in a local group’s music video, wooing the male audience with her curves and edges.
Now we have every woman with a well-endowed African body working their way up the ladder to become a socialite in Kenya. The question that one would ask is, are these ladies really socialites or could they be a product of the glorification that we have given sex in our society?
In the 19th and 18th century being a socialite was not about posing seminude. It was about responsibility. It was not about pleasure but survival. This was how favors were gotten. There were both male and female socialites. Any males posing nude recently?
The bible speaks of one queen Vashti, her husband king Xerxes, wanted to show off his wife but she refused. The king was a socialite and when the queen, the socialite’s companion refused to play her role; she was divorced on the spot.

Today we have the likes of Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie among others. These are world class socialites but you will not see then making a video of them’’ twerking’’ in panties. Yes they do have some sex tapes leaked but truth is they are socialites because they were born with a silver spoon in their mouth.The new Kenyan LOVE

The author of this article is not suggesting that we cannot have self-made socialites but there should be a clear line between being on the social circles and being popular because of seminude photos or the men you date.
Women complain about being objected by men but the Kenyan socialite is succeeding at that all alone thank you. Isn’t Lupita Nyon’go a socialite? What about Victoria Kimani, STL, Shaffie Weru, Kalekye Mumo and even Dennis Oliech? They are always in the social lime light because of their work and not because of X rated photos.
Maybe we should all watch ‘’ Gossip Girl’’ to have a 3D image of how socialites live. It is all about wealth, power, influence and fashion not women posting their naked bodies on social networks.
