Instagram Checkout Feature


Despite the Instagram blackout last week, there is a new profit-making venture for them. You will now be able to shop on Instagram without leaving the app. The “ Checkout with Instagram” was launched today with more than 20 of the world’s top brands already signed up.

This service is not for free for the sellers as they will be expected to pay a specific fee for operations.

Instagram ads will definitely get a boost from this new service but for now, only organic posts are working. The check out tags will be seen on the feed posts, stories plus exploration. For the first time users, it will be required that they enter their payment information but this will be a one time thing since the information will be stored for future purchases.

After making a purchase the buyer is able to track their order on the “ Orders” section on their profile. There are several options here like canceling, initiating a return or contacting the seller. Instagram will notify you when the order is shipped.

The sellers only receive the necessary details that will ensure the order is fulfilled so no need to worry about your privacy. You should include your contact information but do not provide your payment details. There is an opt-in option to share your email address. There are different payment modes like PayPal, Mastercard, Visa, Discover or American Express. There are plans underway to integrate selling platforms such as BigCommerce, Shopify among others with the Checkout feature.

Some of the launch brands already in place are Adidas, Dior, H&M, Huda Beauty, MAC Cosmetics, Prada, Revolve, Zara among others.

It can be seen how Instagram has gone to great lengths to protect its users by keeping them within their app. It is also good news to know that something less bulky than a website can help you conduct business.
